Uncompleted Chair

The Uncompleted Chair, showcased at the RAIN exhibition during the 2019 Taiwan Design Week. The project explores the application of the concept of "affordance" in design, where objects naturally suggest possible actions for users to perceive and consequently influence their usage behavior.

The Uncompleted Chair subverts the conventional form of dining chair, instigating an unconscious impulse to complete its missing backrest. By amalgamating the functionalities of a chair and an umbrella rack, it not only facilitates convenient shoe-wearing and umbrella placement but also imbues the hallway environment with a distinctive character. The strategic positioning of umbrellas creates a visual illusion of a complete chair back, enhancing the perception of a completed chair.
